16 Dec Radium Receives First AIA Design Award
Radium Architecture was honored to receive one of six Design Awards presented by the Greenville Section of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) (http://www.aiagreenville.org) at their bi-annual design award ceremony. The new Greenville location for Breakwater Restaurant (http://www.breakwatersc.com/) leveraged a limited budget with bold and ambitious goals to provide a new entrance and striking street presence for the Lowcountry entrepreneurs.
The Award Jury noted: “We were charmed by the boldness of the architect’s statement which basically called out local restaurant design in a project statement which stated that they were asked to design a ‘distinctly contemporary personality that was directly opposite from the conventional and predictable traditional décor of the majority of the local competition.”
The 4,000-square-foot restaurant will seat 140 patrons. It is the second location for Breakwater, which also has a location in Beaufort. The Beaufort restaurant is an OpenTable.com Diner’s Choice winner, in addition to the accolades it has earned from Trip Advisor and the Lowcountry press.
