This feasibility study and conceptual design for a new Student Activities Building for Spartanburg Methodist College was conceived as a design-build collaboration between Radium Architecture and Cely Construction Company to deliver a cost effective, turnkey solution for the client. The building provides indoor batting cages, administration offices, weight rooms, a multipurpose area, and restrooms and concessions for the adjacent baseball and softball fields.
The building core will be a cost efficient pre-engineered metal building with standard standing seam metal panels accented with a juxtaposed brick-clad appendage. This allows the mass of the metal building to be scaled down to a pedestrian level. An expansive band of north-facing clerestory windows allows an abundant amount of light into the high bay athletic space. The smaller widows allow the same light to illuminate the high use, public spaces at the front of the building.
